One night I was in my dorm room studying as I received a phone call from Levi. Levi called me with a fun, adventurous idea: “let’s go to Seattle for Mariners games!” I remember being hesitant about going because I was concerned about my homework. Yes, I was one of those stressed-out, studious girls in college. Although, Levi seemed eager and excited for this trip. And I am so glad that I said yes to the Seattle adventure. Little did I know, he had something amazing up his sleeve… or should I say, in an oversized happy birthday bag (I will explain this later)!
Levi picked me up from college and we drove to Seattle. Our plans included two Mariners games! I didn’t think anything was unusual about the trip because we attended sporting events ALL of the time. It is one of the activities we enjoyed doing together!
On September 22, 2012, I attended my first professional baseball sporting event. We had first row seats in the left outfield. I mad a note to myself: baseballs flying everywhere… remember to bring glove next time. It was such an exciting game and the Mariners won!
After the game, on that Saturday night, we both wanted to spend more time together in Seattle. He really wanted us to get dressed up, and again I thought nothing of it because we often dressed up for date nights. I dressed in a favorite outfit and he drove us to Pier 57. On the way to Pier 57, we got lost and accidentally took a turn into a ferry lane and had to drive all the way through it and back out. When we finally arrived at Pier 57, I got out of the car and felt the cold breeze. Despite the crisp air, I was so thankful there was no rain. I turned around after getting out of the car and noticed Levi grabbing something from the backseat (in which he told me earlier to not look at). It was an enormous happy birthday bag. I smiled as I knew it was not my birthday. He said, “I have a surprise for you.” As we walked hand in hand to the waterfront, the city lights seemed to be shinning bright simply for us. We arrived on the Pier with many people walking around.
In the midst of all the people, we walked until the view seemed perfect. To the left of me was a giant ferris wheel, and to the right was the tall, beautiful space needle. When we stopped at this perfect scene, I had to take a picture of us with the ferris wheel in the background. Little did I know, this would be a picture we would remember forever. Levi turned to me and said it was time for him to give the gift. He reached into the big birthday bag and pulled out a lids bag (a store where we purchased our sport hats). As I looked at the hat, it was certainly my new favorite Seattle Seahawks hat! He said, “turn it around.” I did so and it read: “K. CHAPPELL.” Could it be!? I just smiled… I didn’t know what to say!
“It will make more sense when I do this,” Levi said as he bent down on one knee. “Will you marry me?” I began to jump/scream/cry: “yes, yes, yes!” September 22, 2012 is a day that I will always remember. On Pier 57, between the ferris wheel and space needle, along the waterfront, I said yes to my best friend and the man of my dreams!
